What is hospice?

A special way of caring, focused on comfort, not a cure.

Hospice eases the symptoms of a life-limiting illness through palliative and comfort care, delivered wherever the patient calls home: a private residence, an assisted living community, or a skilled nursing facility.

The goal isn’t to add more treatments, but to bring comfort, peace, and presence to each day, while caring for the emotional and spiritual needs of the patient and the people who love them.

Our interdisciplinary team

  • Hospice physicians and nurse practitioners
  • Registered nurses skilled in pain and symptom control
  • Certified hospice aides for personal care
  • Medical social workers
  • Chaplains and spiritual counselors
  • Trained volunteers
  • Bereavement counselors

Who pays for hospice?

For most families, hospice is fully covered.

Hospice care is covered by Medicare, Medi-Cal / Medicaid, and most private insurance plans, so families can focus on their loved one instead of the cost of care.

Medicare

The hospice benefit under Medicare Part A covers the care team, medications related to the diagnosis, equipment, and supplies.

Medi-Cal / Medicaid

Covered for eligible patients. We verify benefits for you before care begins.

Most private insurance

Many commercial plans include a hospice benefit. We’ll confirm what yours covers.

Your other coverage stays in place. Patients keep their full Medicare and Medi-Cal / Medicaid coverage for any healthcare needs not related to their hospice diagnosis. Not sure what your benefits include? Call us at (818) 839-3333 and we’ll help you understand your options.
